With summer in full swing, now’s the time to go outside and soak up some sunshine. You know what would make the beautiful weather even better? FOOD.
That’s right folks: it’s picnic season. Picnics are great because you can go all out with charcuterie and crudités or go with something simple. Dust off that picnic basket hiding in the back of your closet, grab a blanket, and head to the nearest park.
Here’s what you need:
1) Protein:
Cured meats are great for a picnic. Good vegetarian and vegan alternatives are tofu or seitan – especially in burger form.
2) Cheese:
The need for cheese goes without saying. Spread or hummus make for good vegan or vegetarian alternatives.
3) Bread:
Anything crusty and fresh is ideal for picnics. Many places have gluten-free options as well.
4) Fruit / Vegetables:
They add a splash of color and taste even better outdoors.
5) Salad:
Traditional macaroni or potato salads are great choices for a picnic. Green salads are a healthy option too.
6) Libations:
Remember the water, tea, juice, beer, or wine. Whatever suits your tastes!
7) Company:
Don’t forget that good friends complement good food! Or, a good book, if you’re planning a picnic-for-one.
8) Blankets:
Don’t forget something to sit on! A beach towel will work if you can’t find a blanket.
9) Dishware:
Plates and utensils are a must. Also, you wouldn’t want to be a mess while you’re chatting up other picnic-goers, so don’t forget the napkins. Cloth napkins are more sustainable and will look nicer in your pictures, but paper ones will do.
Just one more thing: don’t forget to clean up!
